ABOUT ME

Hi Class Welcome,

Welcome to 2nd grade! My name is Ms. Quintanar, I’m so excited to be your teacher this year. In math we will be exploring new concepts, solving fun problems, and building strong math skills together. I’m here to support your child’s growth and make learning math an enjoyable experience. I was born in New Mexico but grew up in California. In 2024 I graduated from California State University Fullerton, with a bachelor's degree in liberal studies with an emphasis in Elementary Education. I also minored in Chicano/a studies. I am currently working on my master's degree along with getting my teaching credentials, also attending Cal State University Fullerton. I have worked with children my whole life and plan on pursuing my career to inspire students as the work through their educational journey. I look forward to creating memories and getting to know each and one of you. Let's make this year memorable!

About the Class

What we will do:

Welcome to our 2nd grade math class! This year, we will explore a variety of exciting topics that will help us build strong math skills. We’ll start by learning about money—how to count coins like pennies, dimes, and dollars, and how to solve problems using them. You'll get to practice solving real-world problems, such as figuring out how much money you have when you combine different coins.

Throughout the year, we’ll also explore addition and subtraction, telling time, measuring objects, and much more! We’ll use hands-on activities, games, and fun lessons to help you understand math in a way that makes sense. Get ready to be a math superstar and have fun while learning!

Collaboration

Students will learn from one another, share different problem-solving strategies, and build communication skills. Working together allows them to explain their thinking, ask questions, and support each other’s learning. This teamwork boosts confidence, encourages creativity, and fosters a positive attitude toward math by making it a fun and interactive experience. When students collaborate, they can deepen their understanding and feel more connected to the learning process.

Engaging Hands-On Activities

Incorporating hands-on activities and math games into the classroom helps make learning more engaging and interactive for 2nd grade students. Using manipulatives like base ten blocks and coins allows students to physically work with numbers, helping them better understand abstract concepts like addition, subtraction, and money. Math games, such as Bingo or card games, provide a fun and competitive way for students to practice these skills while reinforcing important math concepts in an enjoyable way. Both of these methods encourage active participation and make learning feel more like play, which boosts students’ confidence and enjoyment in math.

My philosophy

My teaching philosophy as an elementary educator centers on understanding and nurturing the diverse backgrounds and needs of my students. I acknowledge that each child has unique experiences, and I strive to create a supportive and inclusive environment where everyone feels valued. Building strong relationships is essential, as it fosters both emotional and academic growth through active listening and equitable engagement. By encouraging exploration and creativity, I aim to empower my students to become confident learners and compassionate individuals, guiding them toward their fullest potential while respecting their individual journeys.
